Why I Love What I Do!

Hi everyone and thank you for showing so much support for Family First Doula Service so far! I am learning so many new things on this amazing new journey and I am beyond excited to get the conversation going! I’m really looking forward to sharing my thoughts on a lot of the topics that surround motherhood and of course all things birth! So here we go…. This is why I LOVE what I do!!!!!

For as long as I can remember, I have loved working with people. Hearing their stories, their success and their struggles has always fascinated me. My journey so far in my career has given me the opportunity to help motivate and inspire women to reach their ultimate health and wellness goals.  Over the past 8 years, I’ve been able to gain not only a lot of experience in the service industry but, really the chance to hear the stories of hundreds of women and watch them transform into the best possible version of themselves.  I loved being a positive role in each of my client’s journey,  working with them on a weekly basis and watching them succeed. But, something was missing….

I came to find my passion for birth after my sweet little nephews were born and it completely changed the path my life was on.  My eyes opened and I began to see the immense gap in education and support that young women and families have access to so, I knew we could do better.

( No one comes close to his little brother Mr. Liam Chase! When did this baby turn into an 8 year old?)

I successfully completed my CAPPA Labour Doula training in 2009 but, had to put it on the back burner for a while, as I was still running a business in Swift Current and couldn’t really start working with clients here in Regina. After the birth of my first daughter, I decided to step away from the business that I built and stay home to grow our family.  Last summer, we welcomed our second daughter into the world and I knew my family was now complete.

(ME AND MY GIRLS!)

I’m sure any mom can relate, to the feeling of heading back to work after their mat leave. Well for me,  it was a bit different…. I didn’t have a job to go back to!!! I spent months and months trying to figure out where I could fit into a new career, where my true gifts would have the chance to shine. I knew I needed to go to work but,  the thought of leaving my kids and going to a job that didn’t give me the freedom to work with people, didn’t sit well with me. But, then the mom guilt kicks in…do I just go find a job that will support my family or,  do I do what I know in my heart is what I’m here to do? My life has taught me a very important lesson so far and it’s….. do the work that feeds your soul and you can never go wrong! So,  that’s exactly what I intend to do!!!

Being a Doula, but more importantly, just being of service for other people is what inspires me! I love what I do because I get to help women through the biggest transformation they will ever go through! I love what I do because, I know I am making a huge difference in the lives of the families I work for! Over and above the amazing people I get to work with, I get to build  a business that doesn’t exist here in Regina yet. One that is based on bringing everyday families the fact based information they need, to make the important and even life altering decisions for their new baby. One that is based on our clients receiving THE BEST SERVICE possible, by a team of Doulas that are all working together to help them meet their birth goals! I hope to help create jobs for other women or mothers like myself, who are passionate and educated but, also may have a family to care for at home.

I LOVE what I do because, I get to be part of changing the birth culture in our city. I want to inspire other mothers out there to take a good hard look at what matters and decide what is important to them when it comes to their birth. They may not know it going in but,  it completely changes who you are and if I can be any sort of positive influence or guide on their journey,  then I am happy do to so. I always say ” I’m all for choice” but, the key to that is making an INFORMED choice. It’s not up to me what you go with but, my number one job is to bring you the facts, to help you clearly navigate through the twist and turns and ultimately support you,  in whatever you end up choosing.

I LOVE what I do because I truly love to see people succeed.  Choosing a Doula is such a personal choice and you really need to find someone who you mesh well with. I am really looking forward to seeing who I will meet along the way, how I will help them and also all of the lessons each family will end up teaching me in the end. For me, this blog is the best way to put myself out there, so that women who are looking into working together can really get a good picture of what my goals are and who I really am as a Doula and Mother. If you have any questions at all or would like to set up a meeting, please don’t hesitate to email me. I would LOVE to hear from you!
